FAQ

WHAT MAKES LED DOWNLIGHTS A PREFERRED LIGHTING CHOICE?

LED downlights are widely regarded as a preferred lighting choice due to several compelling reasons. Firstly, their exceptional energy efficiency enables significant cost savings on electricity bills compared to traditional lighting options. LED technology converts a higher percentage of energy into light, minimizing wasted energy as heat. Secondly, LED downlights have an impressively long lifespan, lasting up to 25 times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs. This longevity reduces maintenance efforts and replacement costs. Additionally, LED downlights offer versatility in terms of colour temperature, allowing users to create various lighting atmospheres to suit different spaces and moods. Moreover, LED lights are environmentally friendly, as they contain no hazardous materials like mercury and emit lower levels of carbon dioxide during operation. Combined, these advantages position LED downlights as a preferred lighting choice for their energy efficiency, durability, versatility, and positive environmental impact.

HOW MUCH USAGE CAN I EXPECT FROM LED DOWNLIGHTS BEFORE REPLACEMENT?

LED lights have gained a reputation for their extended lifespan, as indicated by manufacturers' printed expectations on packaging, ranging from 5 to 20 years. However, the actual lifespan of an LED is influenced by various factors beyond manufacturer estimates. Intense heat, high frequency of use, and operating at higher currents than intended can impact the lifespan. In practice, LED lights generally last between 5 to 7 years. For example, a light may last 10 years with limited use in room-temperature conditions, but only 7 years when frequently exposed to hot outdoor temperatures. It's important to note that even if an LED reaches its manufacturer-indicated lifespan, it will experience luminous decay, gradually reducing its light output.

DO I NEED AN ELECTRICIAN TO REPLACE LED DOWNLIGHTS?

Installing complete downlight fittings typically requires the expertise of an electrician. These fittings include not only the light fixture but also the electrical components associated with them. However, if your ceiling already has power sockets in place, you have the option to purchase a new downlight with a plug and install it yourself. In such cases, you can simply plug the downlight into the existing power socket without needing to involve an electrician.

Changing a LED downlight can be a simple process if you follow the correct steps:

1) Disable the power source by switching it off.

2) Take out the current LED downlight.

3) Disconnect the power cable.

4) Plug in the new LED downlight into the existing socket.

5) Restore power by turning the power source back on.
